Freund’s Complete Adjuvant, Mycobacterium butyricum, consists of heat-killed Mycobacterium butyricum in non-metabolizable oils (paraffin oil) and surfactant (Arlacel A). Components are thoroughly mixed in controlled proportions and autoclaved prior to being vialed.

Features of Freund’s Complete Adjuvant (FCA):

• Also called Complete Freund’s Adjuvant (CFA).
• FCA can be utilized to produce water-in-oil emulsions of antigens.
• FCA can significantly enhance the immune response to immunogens by inducing a potent and long-lasting immune response.
• FCA contains heat-killed Mycobacterium butyricum, which help to stimulate the immune system.
• FCA is often used for initial immunization.

This product is made by a modification of Freund’s technique, in which 25 mg of Mycobacterium is suspended in a mixture of 7.5 mL Arlacel A and 42.5 mL paraffin oil. An adjuvant is a material that when administered enhances the antibody response of animals injected with antigen.

Freund’s incomplete adjuvant is used for the boosts. Prepared from non-metabolizable oils (paraffin oil and mannide monooleate)

G418 Sulfate is an aminoglycoside related to Gentamicin and is toxic to bacteria, yeast, higher plants, mammalian cells, protozoans and helminths. G418 Sulfate is an effective selecting agent utilized in killing prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.

Normal goat serum is commonly used for the blocking of non-specific antibody binding in tissue and cell staining, and in other applications of antibodies. It can successfully reduce nonspecific binding of proteins and antibodies to reaction surfaces and non-specific binding sites. It provides an alternative to bovine serum albumin (BSA) and non-fat dry milk.
