Description
Acetic Anhydride, ACS or ethanoic anhydride as it is otherwise known, is a colorless, strong smelling liquid chemical compound. It is the simplest isolatable acid anhydride and commonly used as a reagent for organic synthesis. Mainly used for acetylations, its main use is for the conversion of cellulose to cellulose acetate and in the synthesis of aspirin. As an ACS grade quality reagent, its chemical specifications are the de facto standards for chemicals used in many high-purity applications and typically designate the highest quality chemical available for laboratory use.
