Arbutin is a derivative of hydroquinone used in skin-whitening ingredients. It is reported to inhibit the activity of tyrosinase, which is a key enzyme for melanin biosynthesis. This acts to effectively prevent the anomalous incr1-EAse of melanin which is blamed for “age or sun spots and freckles.”
