Description
The Bright Live-Cell Imaging DNA Dye (Hoechst-33342) labels DNA within the cell nuclei of live and fixed cells. This dye has low cytotoxicity, reversibly binds to single DNA, and selectively binds to adenine-thymide rich regions of double stranded DNA. It has been shown to displace several known DNA intercalators. This dye can be used for sorting live cells based on DNA content quantifying DNA content, in the visualization of chromatin distribution within live cells to detect BrdU incorporation into cells, and in the study of the initial stages of apoptosis and cell-cycle distribution. Chromosomes that are dividing or replicating will not stain with this dye.
