Ectoine, also known as 1,4,5,6-tetrahydro-2-methyl-4-pyrimidinecarboxylic acid, is a natural compound used as an ingredient in sun protection and skin care products which stabilizes proteins and other cellular structures against UV irradiation and dryness.
