Description
The MagBeads FastRNA™ Kit is designed to quickly and effectively isolate high-quality total RNA from tissues and cultured cells in 60 minutes. This kit allows for a higher sample throughput (up to 96 samples) when used with FastPrep-96 (see Cat. No. 116010500) and Lysing Matrix A or D, 96-tube racks (see Cat. No. 116980001 and 116983001) to efficiently lyse all cells and tissues. The cleared lysate can then be transferred to tubes or a 96-deep well plate. After addition of magnetic beads and binding solution, RNA is adsorbed onto the surface of the beads, and impurities such as proteins and other inhibitors are washed away.
This kit is versatile and can be used with most automated nucleic acid extraction platforms available in the market. Alternatively, extractions can be performed manually using microcentrifuge tubes (see Cat. No. 115081500 and 115083500) or 96-deep well plates (see Cat. No. 115095050) with a magnetic stand (see Cat. No. 116570413, 116570426, and 116570429).
The kit is equipped with reagents specially formulated to remove common inhibitory substances found in biological samples, such as proteins and enzyme inhibitors. As a result, the output is highly pure total RNA that is suitable for a variety of molecular biology applications, including RT-PCR, viral RNA testing by PCR/qPCR, transcriptomics, NGS, and other RNA-based assays.
Performance Data
Figure 1. Measurements of nucleic acid purity for total RNA extracted from 5 mg and 20 mg of chicken liver samples using the MagBeads FastRNA Kit. Purity of extracted total RNA was determined using absorbance ratios, A260/280 and A260/230. A260/280 values (orange bars) of 1.8 – 2.1 is considered an indicator of pure RNA without protein contamination. A260/230 ratios (blue bars) ranging from 1.85 to 2.05 are generally considered optimal, indicating removal of unwanted organic compounds and other cellular impurities.
Figure 2. Gel electrophoresis of total RNA extracted from 5 mg and 20 mg of chicken liver samples. Intact and bright ribosomal RNA (rRNA) bands indicate high integrity of extracted RNA.
