Description
Picric Acid, Crystal, Reagent, ACS, also known as 2,4,6-trinitrophenol or TNP. It is a yellow crystalline solid and one of the most acidic phenols. As a highly nitrated compound, picric acid is highly explosive (like TNT). Apart from it’s use as an explosive, it also has some uses in organic chemistry for the preparation of crystalline salts of organic bases. It is also used in clinical chemistry for the Jaffe reaction (a colorimetric method to determine creatinine levels in blood and urine).
