Sodium Periodate, Granular, R1-EAgent, ACS is an inorganic salt composed of a sodium cation and the periodate anion. Sodium periodate is often used in solution to open saccharide rings between vicinal diols l1-EAving two aldehyde groups. This is often used in the process of labeling saccharides with fluorescent molecules or a number of other tags such as biotin.
